Former Japan National Badminton Player, Mako Urushizaki, recently visited Pertama to share her expertise and passion for badminton with local students in Miri and Bintulu. Mako was ranked 1st in the Dubai International Challenge 2019 and RSL Swedish Open 2019.

Retired in 2021 due to injury, Mako now coaches badminton at Akua Badminton in Tokyo. Her purpose of visiting Sarawakian local students was two-fold, to engage with the local community, and also to learn about Pertama’s work cultures and values.

To kickoff her visit, Pertama organized a two-day friendly badminton sessions amongst staff and including general manager Yuki Nakamura. Following the engagement with Pertama staff, Mako alongside Pertama’s CSR team organized two Badminton Workshops with SK Tegageng, Subis Miri and SK Kuala Nyalau, Samalaju Bintulu for the local students on the 23rd and 24th of September.

The workshop, How to Become a Champion is a 2 hour warm-up and basic badminton skills training taught by Mako herself to the students in both schools. Aligning with Pertama’s CSR initiative in promoting continuous development for Sarawakian local students, introducing a national badminton player to the local community through both workshops offers an invaluable opportunity to learn from the experts in the field.

As Pertama continues to believe that the strength of a company lies in the good relationships among its employees and the communities, events like these reinforces the organization’s commitment to nurturing talent and fostering community spirit.
