Bintulu, 25th October 2024 – Top management of Pertama Ferroalloys gathered at New World Suites, Bintulu, for an in-depth financial year budgeting discussion, chaired by General Manager Yuki Nakamura, Deputy General Manager Saito Kiminobu, and Assistant Deputy General Manager Jack Tan, alongside senior and assistant managers.

In his opening remarks, Nakamura expressed gratitude for the dedication of the management team, noting the resilience of Pertama in a challenging market. Although initial expectations were low for the first half of the year, the actual results exceeded predictions with a more favorable performance. Nakamura attributed this to the company’s improved competitiveness and heightened focus on quality control, narrowing the gap with major players like China and India. “I’m confident Pertama can grow more competitive and sustainable in the global ferroalloy industry,” Nakamura remarked, stressing the importance of top management’s leadership in supporting the next generation of Pertama managers.

A significant portion of the meeting addressed Pertama’s KPI restructuring. Nakamura highlighted a shift from traditional volume-focused metrics toward a broader strategy that encompasses corporate, departmental, and shared targets. This evolution, he noted, aligns with the management’s responsibility to prioritize sustainability and profitability, aiming to position Pertama as a global leader in ferroalloy production.

The company’s heightened focus on environmental responsibility reflects a proactive approach to impending carbon tax regulations in Malaysia that is set to take effect in 2026. Nakamura announced new initiatives for carbon offsetting and value-added projects as part of Pertama’s commitment to sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR). These initiatives, he noted, underscore Pertama’s readiness to adapt to environmental and social governance standards, which are increasingly integral to modern industry.

The discussion concluded with a reaffirmed commitment to the company’s long-term vision and future expansion project, which Nakamura described as “one of the biggest KPIs” for the management team. Through this strategic realignment, Pertama Ferroalloys looks forward to reinforcing its operational and environmental strengths while building a foundation for continued industry leadership.
