Belawai, February 9, 2025 – The Polytechnic Mukah proudly concluded its Student Travel Program from February 7th to 9th, 2025, aimed at enhancing consumer advocacy and community service among its students and local residents. The event took place across multiple venues, including the Rajang Village Hall, Jerijeh Village Hall, Belawai Village Hall, and Abang Gesa Primary School Belawai, bringing together diverse participants to foster collaboration and growth.

The program was graced by Honourable Guest Datuk Haji Len Talif Salleh, Deputy Minister for the Ministry of Natural Resources and Urban Development (MuDENR), who emphasized the importance of education and community development in achieving sustainable goals.

With a total participation of 241 individuals, the event attracted 68 students and 43 lecturers from Polytechnic Mukah, alongside 130 local community members and representatives from Pertama Ferroalloys. Notable representatives from Pertama Ferroalloys included Norhapizah binti Pen and Mr. Augustine Lawang, highlighting the strong partnership between education and industry.

Pertama Ferroalloys contributed significantly to the event, funding a Business Partner Course on the Easy Business Model Canvas for 40 villagers, and providing food and beverages for 100 participants. This initiative aligns with their commitment to supporting sustainability development goals (SDG) in Sarawak.

The program also served as a platform for talent acquisition, allowing Pertama Ferroalloys’ Human Resource Department to scout potential candidates from among the Polytechnic Mukah students and local youth. Participants had the chance to drop off resumes and engage in short interviews, fostering a direct connection between education and future employment opportunities.

In conclusion, the exemplary collaboration between Polytechnic Mukah and Pertama Ferroalloys has paved the way for enhanced business modelling and economic growth in Belawai, a region known for its seafood production and craft products. As YB Datuk Haji Len Talif Salleh noted, the future looks bright with proposed infrastructural developments expected to bolster Belawai’s competitiveness, ultimately contributing to the vision of PCDS 2030.

The success of this Student Travel Program reflects the potential within the community and the valuable role educational institutions play in fostering economic resilience. With continued support from local organizations and government initiatives, Belawai stands poised for a prosperous and sustainable future.
