Pertama Ferroalloys Supports Local Orphans with “Hearts & Hopes” Community Development Program

Bintulu, Sarawak – October 12, 2024 In a heartwarming initiative aimed at supporting the educational needs of underprivileged children, Pertama Ferroalloys Sdn. Bhd. partnered with PERYATIM Bintulu and Universiti Putra Malaysia Kampus Bintulu (UPMKB) for the “Heart & Hopes” Community Development Program. Held at the PERYATIM orphanage in Kampung Jepak, Bintulu, this community effort sought to empower 53 Muslim orphans, aged 7 to 17, with essential supplies for the school year. Guided by the theme “Back to School,” the program aimed to uplift the children through donations of clothing, school equipment, and personal support. As part of Pertama Ferroalloys’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts, representatives Augustine Lawang and Sylvester Sumping participated in the event, contributing five boxes of clothing, including T-shirts, pants, and sports jerseys. Agreement inked to purchase and store slag byproducts

BINTULU: Pertama Ferroalloys Sdn Bhd (PFA) and Kemena Industries Sdn Bhd, have formalised an agreement for the purchase and storage of Pertama’s Silicomanganese (SiMn) slag byproduct, a key development for both companies and the region’s industrial sustainability efforts. The agreement was formalised in a signing ceremony at Wisma Bintulu, between Pertama general manager Yuki Nakamura and Kemena Global managing director Albert Hii Toh Ing. Under the agreement, Kemena Industries will purchase 500,000 metric tons of SiMn slag in the first year with an estimated 200,000 metric tons to be supplied annually in subsequent years, thus highlighting a shared commitment to environmental stewardship and the circular economy. With the necessary stockyard facilities in place, Kemena Industries is well-positioned to store the byproducts for future industrial use. Politeknik Mukah Discusses Potential Collaboration with Pertama Ferroalloys for Comprehensive Learning

Pertama Ferroalloys had recently received an industrial visit from Jabatan Perdagangan Politeknik Mukah, as part of their program “From Classroom to Factory: Industry Insights and Expert Perspectives”. The visit that was held yesterday, 2nd October 2024 was designed to enhance the practical learning of the Diploma of Business Studies students. A total of 65 students and 4 lecturers took part in the visit. Mako Urushizaki Shares Expertise for Badminton to Sarawak Local Students

Former Japan National Badminton Player, Mako Urushizaki, recently visited Pertama to share her expertise and passion for badminton with local students in Miri and Bintulu. Mako was ranked 1st in the Dubai International Challenge 2019 and RSL Swedish Open 2019.  Retired in 2021 due to injury, Mako now coaches badminton at Akua Badminton in Tokyo. Her purpose of visiting Sarawakian local students was two-fold, to engage with the local community, and also to learn about Pertama’s work cultures and values.  To kickoff her visit, Pertama organized a two-day friendly badminton sessions amongst staff and including general manager Yuki Nakamura. Community Coming Together for Beach Clean-Up Ahead of Bintulu International Kite Festival Local Tour 2024

21 September 2024 –  Kampung Nyalau was recently buzzed with community spirit with approximately 200 volunteers participating in a corporate social responsibility (CSR) event. The event focused on cleaning of the Kampung Nyalau beach and multipurpose hall. The clean-up event was organized by Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) with the help of village committees, as well as Samalaju Industrial Park (SIP) companies including Pertama Ferroalloys Sdn Bhd and Press Metal Bintulu Sdn Bhd. SK Tegageng 35th Annual Sports Day

Bintulu, Sarawak – SK Kampung Tegageng recently organized their 35th Annual Sports Day held on August 17, 2024. The event included a number of sporting activities such as track and field events, and lucky draws.The sports day was a lively celebration showing the students enthusiasm for sports. Students from pre-school to Year 6 competed in a variety of competitions which was also attended and supported by their parents. Delegations from Pertama Ferroalloys attended to support and contribute to the event as well, alongside the local communities and also the school’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTA). Enhancing Human Resources Management through Stringent Labour Law Practices

Pertama Ferroalloys had recently hosted a Labour Law talk on 19th of August designed to enhance its people management, through a comprehensive understanding of the legal aspects of Sarawak Labour Ordinance. Mr. Lio Siang Yun, Ketua Pejabat Tenaga Kerja Bintulu (Labour Department Bintulu) spoke during the event covering a range of topics including Sarawak Labour Law, Labour Compliance Checklist, Forced Labour Indicators, and Precedent Non-Compliance Cases. Sarawak State School Sports Council Handball Tournament 2024 Concludes with Success

Betong, Sarawak – The Sarawak State School Sports Council Handball Tournament 2024, held at the Riveria Sport Centre in Debak, Betong, has come to a successful conclusion. Organized by the Sarawak State Education Department, Sarawak State Sports Council, and the Betong District Education Office, the event showcased the talents of young handball players from across the state. The annual tournament, which rotates among different hosts based on the school calendar in Malaysia, was previously hosted by the Miri Education Office in 2023. This year in Betong, the competition featured four categories: under 12 boys, under 12 girls, under 18 boys, and under 18 girls. A total of 12 contingents participated in the under 12 categories, while 9 contingents competed in the under 18 categories, highlighting the depth of handball talent in Sarawak. Companies in Sarawak to Embrace Gender Equality and Support Working Mothers

In a panel discussion held in conjunction with Women’s Day 2024, industry leaders and academics came together to exchange ideas on empowering women in the workforce.
