Sarawak Advances Green Industry Goals Through Collaboration With Japan & Pertama Ferroalloys – UKAS
TOKYO: The Sarawak Government, Pertama Ferroalloys Sdn. Bhd., and the Ministry of Trade, Economy, and Industry of Japan (METI) convened here on Monday to strengthen bilateral cooperation on natural resource development and economic growth.
According to a press release by Pertama Ferroalloys, the meeting discussed the potential of leveraging Japan’s advanced technologies to support Sarawak’s industrial and sustainable development goals.
Key attendees included Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, and METI representatives, Yuzo Yamaguchi and Sarina Kishi.
Also among those present were Pertama Ferroalloys Chairman, Hirotaka Suzuki and General Manager, Yuki Nakamura.
During the meeting, Pertama Ferroalloys unveiled its Green-Triple Nine Manganese initiative as part of its Phase Two operations.
“This initiative will focus on producing Electrolytic Manganese Metal (EMM) and High Purity Manganese Sulphate (HPMnS), which are recognised globally as critical mineral resources.
“These high-purity products, with 99.9 per cent manganese content, are essential for advanced steelmaking and electric vehicle battery production,” Pertama Ferroalloys stated.
Meanwhile, Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari praised the initiative, noting its alignment with green technology and the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
He highlighted the potential for Pertama Ferroalloys to contribute to renewable energy solutions such as solar battery storage.
According to the same statement, Hirotaka said Pertama Ferroalloys is honoured to serve as the bridge between Japan and Sarawak, facilitating the exchange of expertise and advancing the economic ambitions for both regions.
Additionally, Yuki reiterated the commitment of Pertama Ferroalloys to introduce advanced environmental management technologies from Japan to Sarawak, thus ensuring alignment with Sarawak’s sustainable strategies.
Meanwhile, METI reaffirmed its support for Sarawak’s industrial aspirations through technology transfer and budget prepared for critical mineral resources security. – UKASnews
